Our Mission

To offer empowerment, visibility, and inclusion in an environment where all people can express their true identities through expressions of styling services.

Our Vision

At Identity, we believe that all people deserve the ability to freely express themselves. In a society where gender constructs can put us in boxes, we encourage people to use their hair & styling as a way to affirm their identities. We are here to not only hold space for your identity, but for you to find power in it

Identity is part of the Dress Code Project. Their mission is to educate and empower hair stylists and barbers to give people haircuts that help them look the way they feel. They envision a world where every hair salon and barbershop is a gender affirming, safer-space for LGBTQ2S+ clients.

Roslyn Redman

Roslyn Redman is the owner and founder of Identity Salon. She completed her stylist education at PCI Academy in Ames, Iowa, and she has over 4 years of experience working in salons in the Ames area.

Roz is currently in the LGBTQ+ Leadership Institute at One Iowa where she will continue to learn advocacy and leadership skills. Some of her other studies also include classes from Destroy the Hairdresser and Jayne Matthews.

Roz is passionate about furthering their education about hair, inclusivity, and advocacy. They hope to change the salon industry for the better by stirring things up and learning how to “salon differently.”

Roz is also extremely passionate about positive salon environments in a time where many salons have become toxic as a workplace.
